Books For 6th Graders

So many absolutely awesome middle school books out there. The ones shown in the preceding video are just the beginning. Here are some more awesome 6th grade book series:

1. Harry Potter

I don’t think it would be hard to argue with this sitting atop the best middle school book series of all time. After seven books, 8 movies, and a nation of die-hard fans, Harry Potter is a literary phenomenon, one of the best selling books of all time. The Harry Potter series is a must on any middle school reading list and should not be passed up.

2. Percy Jackson

To an outsider, Percy Jackson looks to be just another of the many books like Harry Potter. Far from it! While both based in fantasy, Percy Jackson is a deeply conflicted character that the movie adaptation of the book gave no justice. While this series wouldn’t seem to be a teen book recommendation, Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series is enjoyed by high school readers and beyond.

3. Maze Runner

Suspense-filled action from the start, Maze Runner and its sequels make for exciting 6th grade adventure books. The mystery of how the characters find themselves in the midst of a maze is enough to keep turning pages until the very end.

4. Artemis Fowl

What would you do with a criminally genius mind? Artemis Fowl is driven to rule the world. This is the best antihero novel for young readers, teaching kids that rooting for the bad guy can sometimes be fun.

5. Hunger Games

One of the privileges of entering middle school is the maturity to handle more complex themes. Hunger Games is one of the best YA sci-fi books to date. Though heavily marketed to female readers (mostly due to being a novel with a strong female character), this book is universally appealing. Harsh, jarring, and riveting, Hunger Games should be on every reading list for 6th grade.

6. Divergent

In the same way Percy Jackson will always be compared to Harry Potter, so too will Divergent be a book similar to Hunger Games. In a post-apocalyptic world where everyone must choose their faction, Tris decides to diverge from her family’s life and join the most wild of the groups. Seems like a book every 6th grader would enjoy.
